About Javad Ezzati

Mohammad Javad Ezzati, born in Tehran in 1982, is an Iranian actor and director who moved from television comedy to some of the most successful dramas in Iranian cinema. By 2019 his starring films had sold more than 18 million tickets, making him the highest-grossing actor in the country at the time.

Early years and comedy

Ezzati started in theatre at 15, formed a street-theatre group with friends and went on to study drama at Soore University. On television he appeared in Night Tales, Mozaffar's Garden and Man of Many Faces. Mehran Modiri's Bitter Coffee and the role of Latif in Great Troubles (2014–2015) made him a well-known comic actor.

Turning to drama

His first major dramatic role came in Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian's Midday Adventures (2017), which brought him critical praise and a Hafez Award. He went on to star in box-office hits such as Oxidan, Lottery, Side Mirror and Hezarpa. In 2021 he led the series Zakhm-e Kari and Mahdavian's film The Loser Man. He then directed and starred in Alligator Blood (Temsah-e Khuni), earning Fajr nominations for both directing and acting.

On Pardeh

Ten Pardeh titles feature Ezzati. Alligator Blood and the film version of Zakhm-e Kari: Bazgasht are natural starting points, and the series Savage (Vahshi) is a social mystery. Alive (Jandar), Drown, Amphibious and Reversed Seven are dramas, Dance with Me is a comedy-drama, and Angels Descend Together and Hame Chiz Baraye Forush go back to his early film work.
