خروس جنگی | Khorus Jangi (2009)

A husband and wife decide to swap places with each other for a while. Stepping into the other's role turns out to be far from simple, and the exchange creates a series of adventures for both of them. That is the premise of Khorus Jangi, whose title means "fighting rooster", an Iranian family comedy directed and produced by Seyed Masoud Atyabi and written by Ghorban Mohammadpour.

A Husband and Wife Trade Places

The comedy grows out of a simple role reversal inside a marriage. Each partner thinks they know what the other's daily life is like, until they have to live it themselves. The film follows the misunderstandings and surprises that come from that experiment.

Mahmoud and Maryam

Reza Attaran plays Mahmoud and Merila Zarei plays his wife, Maryam. The story of their exchange sits at the centre of the film, with their family and neighbours drawn into the consequences.

Reza Attaran, Merila Zarei and the Supporting Cast

Kiumars Malek-Motiei plays Mash Soleiman and Ahmad Pourmokhber plays Aghajoon. Abbas Jamshidifar appears as Gholamrezaei and Shahrbanoo Mousavi as Tayebeh Khanom. Mostafa Panahandeh plays the singer at the wedding hall, and Kianoush Gerami and Bahram Nami are also in the cast.

A Comedy from 1388

Khorus Jangi was produced in 1388 in the Iranian calendar. Javad Farhani served as production manager and project executive. In cinemas it sold about 1.8 billion toman worth of tickets.

Masoud Atyabi behind the camera

Seyed Masoud Atyabi both directed and produced the film. Years later he went on to direct the comedy Bokharest. On Khorus Jangi he worked with composer Mehdi Kheirkhahi, cinematographer Hassan Pouya and editor Hassan Ayoubi.

Who Will Enjoy Khorus Jangi

The film suits viewers who like family comedies built on everyday situations. Its idea, a married couple swapping roles, invites the audience to think about how much work each person does at home and outside it, while keeping the tone light.
