Original title: سرخ و سیاه

Latest available: Season 1 · Episode 3

Sorkh o Siah is an Iranian historical drama series that premiered in 2026. Directed by Aida Panahandeh and co-written with Arsalan Amiri, the series is set in mid-19th century Iran during the Qajar period. It follows a young painter whose life becomes entangled with love, social inequality and the power structures of his time.
The series was previously known under the working title Jadooy-e Sefid. Its domestic premiere on Filimo was on 16 October 2026, with the first episode titled Jan-e Shifteh. Available episodes on Pardeh are listed separately below.
Creative team and production
Aida Panahandeh directs from a screenplay co-written with Arsalan Amiri. Mohammad Yamini and Mohsen Khabbaz are the producers, and Ramin Koosha composed the music. Filimo is the series' original platform. The combination of historical drama and romance places the relationship at the centre of a story about class and authority.
Sorkh o Siah was selected for the main competition at CANNESERIES in 2026. The festival identifies it as the first Iranian series in its selection and lists a screening of the first two episodes. That festival presentation preceded the domestic Filimo premiere; the two events are separate release milestones.
Story overview (spoiler-free)
The story centres on Nowruz, a talented young painter played by Ali Shadman. His life takes a new direction when his relationship with a woman from a travelling community brings him into conflict with the city's ruler. Love becomes inseparable from the differences in status and power around them.
The Qajar setting gives that conflict a particular context: personal choices carry consequences within a rigid social order. The relationship connects the intimate scale of a love story with the larger forces of class and authority. Following Nowruz means following how those forces reach into an individual life.
Ali Shadman plays Nowruz. Parsa Pirouzfar returns to work with Aida Panahandeh after Tee Tee and Dar Entehaye Shab. The ensemble also includes Pardis Pourabedini, Neda Jebraeili, Reza Behboudi, Pedram Sharifi and Pouria Rahimi Sam.
