آهو | Gazelle / Aahoo (2023)

After her fiancé Farhad disappears, Parvaneh distances herself from Tehran and from the people in her life. She moves to a remote village in the north to rebuild herself in solitude. There she makes works of art from wood and stone and sells them through Mr Kiani's gallery. Along the way she meets Saeed, a man who looks very much like Farhad, and she finds herself drawn to him without meaning to be. Aahoo, whose title means "gazelle", is an Iranian film about grief, the search for love and the return to life.

Grief and a Familiar Face

The film follows a woman who has lost the man she was going to marry and tries to find a way back to herself far from the city. Her meeting with Saeed complicates that process, because the resemblance to Farhad brings the past and the present together in a way she did not expect.

Art made from wood and stone

In the village, Parvaneh's creative work becomes part of her recovery. The pieces she makes from natural materials connect her to the world again through the gallery that sells them.

Houshang Golmakani's First Film

Aahoo is the first feature directed by Houshang Golmakani, who co-wrote the screenplay with Sepideh Arman. The film was produced in 1399 in the Iranian calendar by Javad Norouzbeigi, with several partners investing in it. It was released in cinemas in Aban 1402 by Khaneh Film, and a public screening at the Charsou cinema complex was attended by Ali Mosaffa, Sepideh Arman, Hamed Komeili, Soheila Razavi and Reza Yazdani. It later became available online on Filimo on 26 Ordibehesht 1403.

Music and camera

Fardin Khalatbari composed the score, Alireza Zarrindast was the cinematographer and Emad Khodabakhsh edited the film.
